A Fading Hope: Chapter six

A Fading Hope: Chapter Six: Stormclouds

Song- I Will Believe  (From Music inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia)

We were meant to open doors
And we were meant to face the danger
Never knowing what's in store

And never having met a stranger

One of us is big and brave
And one of us is tenderhearted
One of us is tempting fate
And the last but not least of us
Has faith enough for each of us

And I know
That I could never go it alone
'Cause I believe
I'd be lost without You here beside me

There's more, but I'll be using this song twice, so you'll see the rest later! The quality of the video is not so great- the song's also on Itunes. It's a nice one, at least I think so. It comes from an album of music inspired by and for the Chronicles of Narnia, and I think it really works with the digital world as well. While I didn't focus on it, the section after the section I used is what really strikes me as fitting for the two sets of siblings- Tai is big and brave, Kari tenderhearted, Matt is tempting fate, and T.K, the smallest, the last, is always full of faith, full of hope that things will turn out.  So yeah. But the opening fits for all the kids- they are the chosen ones, meant to face darkness, evil, unsure of what's to come- and danger does come, often. So that's the song. It's also part of the "code". ( hint, do any of the songs have anything in common in their background?)

Story- Yay, yet another nightmare. I actually went back and re-watched the episode where the first fight goes down twice, to make sure I got everything right. It was pretty fun to re visit, and fun to write from T.K.'s point of view rather than the audience- well, from a closer third person than the audience, anyway.  I hope you liked it.

Again, it probably says bad things about me, but I liked writing T.K having his panic. I dunno why, I just did. Good thing Pata was there for him, right? At first I was going to have T.k be at his father's apartment, then run across the street to Tai and Kari, but that doesn't fit with my timeline of Dad being with Matt in the evening. so I had to change it, and rather liked it. Hana is an OC, yes- I'm not fond of them, but sometimes you need 'em-introduced briefly in Captive Light. This will probably be her last appearance, though.

The email calling for aid was another story- I had to make it short, I had to make it clear they didn't know who sent it, but I also needed to make sure it would scare the heck out of poor freaked out T.K, who deserves a medal for putting up with me. I think I did a fairly good job. You'll understand why later, *evil grin*

The rest of the chapter was hard, but straightforward. I sat on my couch and typed. For several hours. worth it? I think yes.
I did have a particularly fun time with the last bit, with Yolei. She really was their best shot, but she is only, what, 11? Not that the others are much older, but that must have been, you  know, scary. suddenly everyone's looking to you.
Well, that's about it. the next chapter deals with the Prophecy!

Review response and update

First, a big thanks to those that reviewed. It never fails- never fails- to put a smile on my face and brighten my day.

I'm going to use this blog to respond to Anon reviewers, because there are a few of you, and I like to send everyone thank you's. so, dx1118 , thanks!
You've asked some questions that take up room for explaining, so I'll answer those here as well. I'd meant to, anyway, so thanks for asking!
Of course, I can't tell you how the story will end regarding Devimon, but know that I am a creature prone to happy endings. As for TK and Kari getting together, they are still 11. No pledges of undying love just yet, but some sweet crush stuff, possibly.
As for Ken- he will be making indirect appearances in this story- he won't show up in the story proper, but in the companion, and the things he is doing as this story progresses will be making an impact. I'm already screwing with Canon- you'll understand later( be afraid) but most of what has happened in the show has. Some stuff will have been tweaked, such as the newbies knowing about Wizardmon already, but most of it's the same-  Kimeramon included. Don't worry, the story will be finished- I've even plotted the whole thing out with lots of notes so that in the event of my untimely demise you'll still get your story. See? I'm crazy prepared. Just in case. :)
Most everything else in both Canon and my stories was the same- The kids were a lot harsher towards Ken. I like to think that T.K gave the poor guy one heck of a nasty shock when he showed up next. Ken did not attempt anymore plans other than those that were seen in the show- he was pretty scarred by the whole deal too. Unfortunately, seeing T.K not-dead helped re-enforce the idea that it was all a game to him, so he didn't stop his wicked ways until he does in canon. I'm not that far ahead in my thinking( I think being 12 chapters ahead is enough) but I may do some flashbacky stuff of the nature you've asked for in the Companion.
Thanks again for the review, and all the fun questions. I'm universe building, isn't that scary. :)

As for the Update- I spent time I ought to have been working on my Personal Narrative( involving the Traumatic Dentist Appointment I mentioned in my Author's Note of A Captive Light, Chapter 5. yeesh) working out some details of the next chapter, and getting my two page outline ready. I need to re-watch a few episodes of Season One, hopefully tomorrow, and I'll start typing over the weekend. My Professors willing, You'll have the next chapter by next Saturday morning.
It's another Fun one. You've been warned.

A Fading Hope Chapter Five

A Fading Hope Chapter Five: On Our Own

Song- Man's Road (from the Last Unicorn)
Horizon rising up to meet the purple dawn
Dust demon screaming, bring an eagle to lead me on
For in my heart I carry such a heavy load
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road, walking Man's road
I'm hungry, weary, but I cannot lay me down
The rain comes, dreary, but there's no shelter I have found
It will be a long time till I find my abode
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road
Moon rising, disguising lonely streets in gay displays
The stars fade, the night shade falls and makes the world afraid
It waits in silence for the sky to explode
Here I am on Man's road, walking Man's road

This song comes from one of my favorite childhood movies, The Last Unicorn. Also part of the code (although I forgot to mark it, sorry) it's about the Unicorn, in search of  the others, hoping she's not, well, the Last. The section I used is technically the reprise, which plays just before Unicorn and her allies get attacked by the Red Bull, who is the one that's been disappearing the other unicorns. I thought it fit this chapter- darkness is coming, we can try and fight it, but it's only a matter of time before something goes boom.

Story- I wrote most of this- by which I mean about 90% of it- on the 4th, but it was Merry's birthday gift, so I needed it posted by the 5th. So I stayed up, and wrote until 2:30 AM. Then I posted it and promptly passed out. But aside from a cramp in my typing hand, and being very sleepy, this chapter was one of the most fun to write- if not the most fun-so far. Mostly because I love Izzy. He's such a fun character. For one thing, I can use him to explain things without just telling you. That's quite handy. For another thing, he's just awesome. And the dynamic between him and Tento's great.
I also got to work with Sora, which was a treat, since I didn't get to do that in A Captive Light. I do like Sora, she's such a kind soul. Sora here is pretty much being me- thinking about how different and yet the same things are. I also throw in a little Sorato here. Now, listen. I know some of you are Taiora fans, and let me just say, I have NO problem with Taiora. I don't favor Sorato over Taiora- in fact, I don't care one way or the other, so long as everyone ends up happy. there will be no Tai bashing in this story, and not much more than this little tiny hint of Sorato.
Although I do support SoraxMatt, a bit. The ending of season 1 had that bit with the Proto dark Ocean, and Matt saving Sora from it. That was a very powerful image for me, especially when I was a younger teenager and going through some rather serious depression. But we'll be talking about THAT later- trust me.
We also get more crossover bits with the companion, which I won't be writing 'till this is done, probably. Yeah. You'll get your explanation for what miracle saved Sora. :)
Last thing- yay for prophecies. this is the same Prophecy, by the way, that is brought up in the prologue. It is a copy, and yes, although the kiddos won't know for sure, it was Leomon who carved it there. Just in case. He's cool like that.
And the ending. Heehee. I know that I'd said that this chapter was going to have a nice ending... and it was. But then I decided to do it anyway, 'cause I'm mean like that. and anyway, it wasn't nearly so bad as what I'm GOING to do later. Live in fear. ( Or don't. Things'll work out, I'm a happy ending type person)

So that's the chapter, and YAY! all caught up!
I'm gonna go have a cookie in celebration.

A Fading Hope Chapter Four

A Fading Hope Chapter Four: In the Nick of Time

Song- The Mob Song from "Beauty and the Beast" ( starts at 2:40)

Hearts ablaze
Banners high
We go marching into battle
Unafraid although
The danger's just Increased

I only really listened to this segment, although I do like the full song. It's Alan Menken- that guy is awesome. He's the man behind the music of  Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Enchanted, Tangled, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Newsies... for those of you unfamiliar with the movie, though, this song is from near the end, when Gaston leads an attack on the Beast's castle, and the talking objects ready for battle. They know that they're pretty much doomed- even if they last this battle, the rose is fading fast. still, they fight, because it's all they can do. I thought it also sort of worked for these kids- heading out every day into danger, mostly unafraid... until it gets bad. and they keep fighting anyway. this song is also part of the code. Anyone figure it out yet?

Story-
So we start out almost mirroring , in a way, the Dark Ocean episode. Which, by the way, is one of my favorites. School, and our heroes in first bell. As usual, I loved writing the scenes in this story between Teeks and Kari. I get to show that Kari's still not healed herself, from her own past, which was a challenge, but fun at the same time.

The scene between Davis and Yolei came from me doodling in class, trying to find out how to get them out of their class as I waited for the bell to ring. I remembered the time in 9th grade I'd been sick all over my desk when the teacher wouldn't let me leave, and decided that the melodramatic Yolei could probably fake something. and wouldn't it be just like her to have a number of plans for in case of disaster? she's like Joe in that- always paranoid... I almost like her. ( I'm not a big Davis or Yolei fan, but in my work I get to make them more Oc and less obnoxious, so they're growing on me)

I Figured Cody wouldn't be able to get out of class, and that Kari would take advantage of being the " ill girl" to get out of hers( and you all thought my giving her P.E as last bell didn't mean anything! It was cleverly planned! muahaha!)

then, Adventure. yay! Action. YAY! Planning for disaster: Be still my writer's cruel heart( or: YAY) Lack of cliffies.. I'll speak on that in a sec.

so I take you all back to the Koromon village, which was fun. I like visiting old haunts, as I said. this won't be the last of it. Perhaps because I have vivid memories of the things I've gone through( if not textbook facts) but I've always liked the episodes where things from a season ago get brought up. memories are important, and one of the most important words in the language is " remember" if you ask me. Anyway.
Izzy's parents, by the way, are awesome. We will be seeing them at some point soon. How many of you have folks that would let you do what this kid does? My dad might, but Mom? No way. No.Way. She's more like sora's mom, if that. Heck, try Tai's! Still, this is why Izzy's parents are so cool. they think for a second about what happens if Izzy doesn't go. not that we see that yet. Maybe I'll throw in a flashback. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. I like the Izumi parents.
I got to use one of my all time favorite lines- which I use in real life a lot- "don't Die." of course, I usually say it to people shrieking while watching a horor movie, not people that, by virtue of being digidestined, going to the digiworld and ( worst of all) being in a story written by a teenaged fan that has started thinking about bittersweet endings, are in actual danger. heehee. I'm mean to them, poor ducks.

And that's the Chapter. It was mostly written on a 5 hour bus ride up to my school, and then a little bit was written my first week back in classes. And, as I said in my note, It was dedicated to my boyfriend, who left the week after I posted to go on his Mormon mission to Brazil.

Almost caught up! yes!

A Fading Hope Chapter Three

A Fading Hope Chapter Three: Not Just a Nightmare

Song- Hold on Together (Diana Ross)
Don't lose your way
With each passing day
You've come so far
Don't throw it away
Live believing
Dreams are for weaving
Wonders are waiting to start
Live your story
Faith, hope and glory
Hold to the truth in your heart
(Chorus)
If we hold on togetherI know our dreams will never die
Dreams see us through to forever
Where clouds roll by
For you and I

Souls in the wind
Must learn how to bend
Seek out a star
Hold on to the end
Valley, mountain
There is a fountain
Washes our tears all away
Words are swaying
Somebody is praying
Please let us come home to stay.
(Chorus)

This song has been stuck in my brother's head for around three years. I'm not kidding. He doesn't stop whistling it ever, and heaven help you if you start to sing it. Yeah. But it's a pretty song, and I love it. It comes from the kids movie classic, "The Land Before Time." The old one, the first one. Not one of the dozen plus sequels. Basically, this is the music that plays over everything heartwarming or heart wrenching in that whole movie, only with words.  Anyway. It's also part of the code. Yep.

Story stuff:
This chapter was hard. Not as hard as some of the later ones will be, but hard. Here comes one of the few things I changed from the canon- I had to add in an unseen adventure, one that will get a little more mention later- the destruction of the rest of the Gears (only not so much) by the older gang. that can't possible be super important, right? right. hang on to that, folks.
I also got to work with some of my favorite characters- Joe, Patamon and Izzy. My goodness, are they hard to get right, but so worth it.  And then comes the number one rule of being a super hero/ charzcter in a fantasy novel- never keep secrets from your teammates, particularly secrets relating to the traumatic pasts of said teammates- broken, of course. What else are The rules made for?

I also had TK angst. I really hated writing that. I can do a little bit, but it gets so... ugg. Boring. I feel like A Captive Light had enough of " It's all my fault". It's also more than a little painful to write, what with me entering the mindset of the characters. I've never been in a "it's all my fault" situation, so it feels very alien and strange. My own emotions are confusing enough. With this, and the lovely review of KHLostEmpress echoing my unspoken sentiment, I took a look at what was to come.....

.....And there was WAY too much angst. so I nixed most of it- what a load off my shoulders! don't think this means I'll stop being evile though. I'm not done yet. Not by a long shot! ( evil Laughter Here)
Still, I did like the way Tai ended up here- his typical, " crud, I have to fix things, I.. I can't believe I screwed up, but I did and I did..." 'tude. and Izzy's calm logic- I love Izzy. I do. Such a fun character.
So that was that chapter.

News about A Fading Hope

After careful thought and planning, I have decided that this story will be 20 fanfiction chapters long- that is to say, 18 chapters, a Prologue and and Epilogue. This is one less  than I previously surmised, but I have chosen to merge the next two chapters, "Chapter six: Too Late" and " Chapter seven: Storm Clouds" into one chapter- under the name Storm Clouds.
Said chapter should be posted between the third week of May and the first of June.

I'll get on the next chapter observations posts shortly.

A Fading Hope Chapter two

A Fading Hope: Chapter Two: Flight of Gears

There is a world that is virtual and different.
It can be so cold, makes us stand up for what's right.
Our hopes through our life, if we reset it to the start.

(Chorus)
Here we are, going far to save all that we love.
If we give all we've got, we will make it through.
Here we are, like a star shining bright on your world.
Today, make evil go away.

Code Lyoko, we'll reset it all, Code Lyoko, be there when you call.
Code Lyoko, we will stand real tall, Code Lyoko, stronger after all.

(Chorus)
A world of machines, it can shadow human nature
And all that we need is the way to find the answer
But one thing sure, you can count on us for good.

(Chorus)
We'll do our best to never let you down.
We're up to the test to turn this world around.
(Chorus)
This song is from a french-translated into english- cartoon, Code Lyoko, which is very fun and I really liked it. It's about kids who are fighting an evil super computer, in a digital world(sound familiar?) Of course, these kids have no digimon and are nearly killed, along with the real world roughly once an episode. anyway.  Also part of the Code. I felt it really illustrated the lives of our heroes- they do a ton, and it's about to get worse....but they fight anyway.

Story-
first off, fun fact, I mention Plotmon in my note.Plotmon is apparently the Japanese name for Salmon, who becomes Gatomon. This was not intentional, though I find it hilarious. I had a hard time getting started, but I needed to write, so I did. I was worried I was doing too much " telling" and not enough "showing", at least in the start, but it seemed to work out ok.  This starts the first of the What-the-What "plot hole" type things that will get resolved in Ken's story- the Amusement park. yay. I won't speak of it now. I had fun writing this- I watched a few early episodes of season two again, trying to fit the characters, and I hope I got them right. It was fun to give them all a break, for the moment. I'm fond of cliffhangers, as you know. And Mood Whiplash.

I liked revisiting the park, and this won't be the last time we get some serious, " I've been here before" stuff. This story is going to have lots of revisiting the past places- so you may want to bush up. Still, don't feel like you must- the important stuff will get explained to the younger kids, and thus, you folks.

I was searching for a good place to have this happen- I knew it would ( although early drafts of this story had Matt hurt in a very different way- Devimon used the internet to mess with traffic lights, leading to Matt getting hit by a car. Then I realized I'd been watching way too much Code Lyoko, and Devimon was not Xana, so that got cut ) but wasn't sure where. I figured that the place where T.K once nearly lost his brother- when Matt left to look for the others- would be kinda cool, even if Teeks didn't get it. So that's what I did.

Anyway, that was this chapter. I'll post for the next two soon, and then the next so I can be all caught up :)

A Fading Hope Chapter 1

A Fading Hope: Chapter One: Shadows and Sunlight

Song- Beyond the Veil by Riddle TM ( No video, Sorry. It's on Itunes though- the preview won't cover this first bit, the part used in the story, but you can hear the tune, so... Anyway, bold is used.)

What lies behind you?
What secrets do you hide?
What are those voices
There on the other side?

No way of knowing
No way to talk to you unless you go
All the way through
I can still hear them
Meaningless whispering
They're here all around me.

(Chorus)
Is this what lies beyond the veil?
Is this what happens if we fail?
I'm not prepared to face this
Oh, Sirius,
Come back to me
Come back to me.

One million questions
One million mysteries
Why can't you see it?
'Cause it looks so real to me.
It's just some voices
Faceless, they seem to be right there
Calling me in.
I'll walk right through it
See what's there on the other side
It doesn't scare me.
(Chorus)

This song is a "wrock" song, that is, Wizard Rock, Harry Potter themed music. Several of the songs I've chosen to use are, actually. It's Harry, for those of you who haven't hear of it, missing his dead godfather, who fel through the veil. I thought it ft rather well because of the dreams T.K's been having,  and some things a bit later in the story. It's also first in the hidden code, which I shall now explain. Starting with this, about 3/4ths of the songs used have something in common- if you figure it out, it will reveal a sort of message about the story. It's not needed, and I will explain it on the blog later, so if you don't get it, that's fine. Also, give it time.

Story-
So we start out with a nightmare. I'd like to say here, this is not a prophetic dream. It's not, I swear. Just 'cause everyone thinks they are doesn't make it so. It's just bad memories and T.K's subconscious picking up on the " extra evil" floating around to make them particularly vivid. but the Digiworld is not sending them, and they aren't messages. I promise you.

Then we get exposition- T.K's been having dreams, Patamon points out that his life's pretty much a fantasy novel, and maybe he's having visions- it's a logical thought process.  and my goodness, this was a tiny chapter. then again, I posted it fairly quickly, within a week or so of the prologue. It was also my birthday post- my first birthday away from home, as I'd just started college, in a new state. Scary.

Anyway, that was this chapter. yay.
